There is alot of option allready in ftb (http://www.revjon.com/ftb/)

Would it be hard to use it to edit the post ?

I'd also love to use freetextbox in this forum, it is great in Scott Water's ASP.Net Weblog, but the problem is that FTB procudes HTML and you can edit the HTML code which would not be so good in a forum...

I wouldn't waste my time on the free text box.

It looks very good but has less features and more bugs than another free editor out there:
http://www.fredck.com/fckeditor/

With a bit of work, you can give it exactly the same Office 2003 look as FTB!
And you'll quickly see that it's much much better!!!  For example: visual clues on the state of the edit buttons, right mouse click context menus, more advanced table editing, very nice insert picture function, etc... etc...
Also, the support is much better.

I've taken a thorough look on both ones, and clearly fckedit came out as the winner.  I've incorporated it in an asp.net webmail application that I'm working on, and it does its work very well. :)

I'd like to use FTB as well. I have the FCK one setup and working but it's not 100% integrated like I would like. Does anyone have instructions for getting FTB to work with the .9.9 release?

I'd download the latest source but there appears to be a problem with it, no source in the file.

To use FreeTextBox do the following:

1. Get FreeTextBox v2 or v3 from www.freetextbox.com
2. Copy "FreeTextBox.dll" to your YAF \bin directory
3. Copy the "FreeTextBox" support directory (in mine it's in \web\aspnet_client) into the YAF \editors directory.

Now you can select FreeTextBox v2 in your board settings.

To use FCK v1 or v2:

1. Download FCK project.
2. Copy the FCK bin file to your YAF \bin directory. (Either FredCK.FCKeditor.dll or FredCK.FCKeditorV2.dll)
3. Make a directory under YAF \editors directory named "FCKEditorV1" or "FCKEditorV2" and copy all the support files for it into there. (In my FCK archive that would be all files and folders under \editor)

Let me know if you still can't get them working.

I guess this is where I have an issue. I'm using YAF under DNN 2.1.2 which uses what I believe to be a custom version of FTB 2.0, not the generally available version from FTB.

So, until DNN3 comes out or FTB decides to name their assemblies with a version number to prevent conflicts like this, I'm up a creek it seems.

Or you can modify YAF and recompile. Just edit file "/Editor/ForumEditor.cs" and modify the line:

public FreeTextBoxEditor() : base("FreeTextBox.dll","FreeTextBoxControls.FreeTextBox")

to reflect the new name of the assembly -- whatever you want, say:

public FreeTextBoxEditor() : base("FreeTextBox-YAF.dll","FreeTextBoxControls.FreeTextBox")

And compile the updated YAF...

First I couldn't get it working. But it was pretty easy to get FTB working.

First of all put the freetextbox.dll file in the forum/bin directory.

Forgot all the forum items, text in YAF admin page, the editors directory ect.

Put from everything from the package below the aspnet_client directory into your wwwroot\aspnet_client directory and add this in the web.config in the forum directory

<httpHandlers>
<add verb="GET" path="FtbWebResource.axd" type="FreeTextBoxControls.AssemblyResourceHandler, FreeTextBox" />
</httpHandlers>

This should do it.

I downloaded the latest FCKEditorV2 and plopped it in. First went to Host Settings picked FCKEditorV2.

http://www.fckeditor.net/download/default.html

Take "FredCK.FCKeditorV2.dll" from the bin/Release directory in the latest FCKEditor.NET release. Put this in the bin/ directory of yaf.

Now, under /editors download and plop in the entire FCKEditor javascript code into a folder named FCKEditorV2. Remove the non-essential directories if you want.

That's it.

I used this for the config.js

FCKConfig.ToolbarSets["Default"] = [
	['Preview','Paste','PasteText','PasteWord','-','Print','SpellCheck'],
	['Undo','Redo','-','SelectAll','RemoveFormat'],
	['Bold','Italic','Underline','StrikeThrough','-','Subscript','Superscript'],
	['OrderedList','UnorderedList','-','Outdent','Indent'],
	['JustifyLeft','JustifyCenter','JustifyRight','JustifyFull'],
	['Link','Unlink','Anchor'],
	['Smiley'],
	'/',
	['FontFormat','FontName','FontSize'],
	['TextColor','BGColor']
] ;

Now to just remove the smiley's from the side of yaf. :wink:

Hey,

i´m Newbie in YetAnotherForum.

Till yesterday i installed version 0.9.6 and it worked (with some bugs) very nice.

Today i tried to install the latest version 1.0.0 RC 2.

After updating the Database with the includibg SQL-Scripts i try to log on - and everthing seems to be ok.

Now i tried to edit some posts (wich are created in version 0.9.6). If i open the post with bbcode-editor an save it without any changes ... alle html-tags wasn´t interpreted correct. So i had to setup FCKEditor or FreeTextBox.

I tried it how it was postet here .... i have the following structure in my iis:

forum
forum/bin
forum/bin/yaf.dll
forum/bin/FreeTextBox.dll
forum/bin/FredCK.FCKeditorV2.dll

forum/classes/....
.
.
forum/editors
forum/editors/FCKEditorV2
forum/editors/FCKEditorV2/fckonfig.js
forum/editors/FCKEditorV2/fckeditor.js
forum/editors/FCKEditorV2/editor/
forum/editors/FCKEditorV2/editor/...

forum/editors/FreeTextBox/
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/images/...
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/Languages/...
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/office2000/...
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/officeMac/...
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/Utility/...
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/FTB-FreeTextBox.js
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/FTB-ImageGallery.js
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/FTB-Pro.js
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/FTB-ToolbarItems.js
forum/editors/FreeTextBox/FTB-Utility.js

forum/editors/yafEditor/...

forum/web.config

The Forum-Directory ist inside wwwroot .....

Can anybody tell me what´s wrong ?

I use FreeTextBox-Version 3.06.

I tried to copy the directory aspnet_client to wwwroot but nothing happened.
I alos tried to modify my web.config with the HTTP-Handlers i found in one of the replys but also nothing happened.

I don´t get any error-messages ... but no all toolbar icons are not shown ...

Thanks

LordMM

I followed these step but cant get the FTB working ? even added the http handlers .. in the web.config.old in YAF folder .. just before the
</configuration> tag .. but when i try the editor i get this error ..
A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

what do i do .need the FTB editor .its far better then the default one the major likeness are the shortcut keys like ctrl B makes thing Bold .etc

I did all the steps to install the FCK v2 Editor and I get it working, but after click the Post button I lost all the info I wrote. The post is created but it is empty.

Have I any wrong think or is there anything missing in the instructions?

I have this file list ...
fckconfig.js
fckeditor.js
fckstyles.xml
fcktemplates.xml
fckeditor.asp, .afp, ...
editor\...

There is nothing new about FCKEditor in the Web.config.

I changed the forum setting selecting this editor. I get it, but after click the post button I get the post empty.
