I have a site that has both DotNetNuke and YetAnotherForum, however with DNN I don't use any of the features and my pages are all HTML. My question is, does DNN itself use a lot of resources that could (or would) make YAF more snappy if I had YAF stand alone?

The question arises because I once again have to find a new host* and most host providers caution using DNN because of the memory usage.

*every site was hacked on dotNet-host.com, but mine didn't show any issues because it was a index page hack, however the primary host website has not come up and the host provider has not responded to calls or emails in over a month.

Edit, forgot to mention, if YAF will run more efficiently and more snappy without DNN, is it difficult to parse out the DNN portion? I'm confident that I can create a simple old school 'frame' website that I'll be able to emulate my current HTML pages to replace the use of DNN. I'm just not sure how smooth it'll be to remove DNN from DNN w/YAF so I have only YAF left.

You can try MojoPortal. It's much more modest. Simply check if it has all the required out-of-the-box. So far you can't use rewriting with it as I don't have time to complete it and it's heavily DIY.

I can give you link in private to the integration on my test site if the variant will be of interest to you.

But in your case I would use own simple starter CMS code.
